The result of the vote in the European Parliament on the referral of the Mercosur Agreement to the ECJ clearly shows how divisive this agreement is. It also shows that the arguments put forward by the farming community, which just want fairness, have made sense to a lot of Members of Parliament, across national and political lines.

In quanto agricoltori e cooperative europei conosciamo e siamo pronti ad affrontare tali difficili questioni e le sfide che ci attendono. Cerchiamo di fornire il tipo di agricoltura che i nostri cittadini si aspettano e chiedono: un'agricoltura che garantisca un'elevata sicurezza dell'approvvigionamento alimentare e alti standard di qualità, benessere, sostenibilità e protezione ambientale. Questo è il nostro impegno nei confronti dell'Europa! In cambio, chiediamo ai leader europei di definire il quadro politico che nutrirà il nostro futuro.

COM INTA approved the provisional agreement for the GSP Regulation as was negotiated in trilogues in December 2025. Copa and Cogeca strongly regrets the approval of this agreement as it stands. We firmly believe that an automatic safeguard for rice is necessary to protect such a sensitive sector. Nevertheless, at their current levels the thresholds and surge quantities agreed would only allow the mechanism to activate once great damage has already been done.

After weeks of mobilisation across Europe, yesterday’s first AGRIFISH Council under the Cypriot Presidency had to handle an exceptionally heavy agenda, reflecting the urgency and scale of the challenges confronting the sector. Copa and Cogeca welcome the political engagement shown by Commissioner Hansen and Agri-Fish Ministers, stressing that swift, concrete decisions are necessary to restore stability, confidence and competitiveness of 🇪🇺agriculture on the ground.

Copa and Cogeca welcome the conclusion of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement as a significant and carefully balanced step forward for agri-food trade. The agreement strengthens access to a key growth market while clearly recognising the need to protect the most sensitive sectors of European agriculture and its production model.

Following the mobilisation of 10,000 farmers from all 27 EU Member States on 18 December 2025, EU Agriculture Ministers met today in an extraordinary session with Commissioners Hansen, Šefčovič, and Várhelyi, alongside Council Presidency Minister Panayiotou. The meeting aimed to address the urgent challenges, raised by the farming community, which have pushed the sector to a tipping point.

China has announced provisional duties of 21.9% to 42.7% on EU dairy products, effective on December 23, following an anti-subsidy probe that reeks of political retaliation. Since the EU launched its anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles in 2023, Beijing has systematically targeted EU key agricultural exports: brandy, pork, and now dairy. This decision is not just an attack on our dairy sector, it’s an attack on the livelihoods of thousands of European farmers who work tirelessly to produce high-quality, sustainable food and an attack on our Common Agriculture Policy, which is fully compliant with WTO rules!

Farmers face unprecedented challenges: rising climate pressures, emerging pests, and a shrinking toolbox to protect their crops. The lack of efficient and accessible solutions is causing yields in some sectors to stagnate or worse, decline. Without urgent action, Europe’s food security and farmers’ livelihoods are at risk.

Two days before the large-scale farmers protest on the streets of Brussels, Copa-Cogeca, supported by the undesigning agri-food organisations, urge EU lawmakers to reject the Mercosur Agreement. The signature and ratification of the EU–Mercosur Agreement would send an unequivocally wrong political signal. It would risk further destabilising an already fragile agricultural sector and erode trust in European policymaking.

Farmers, agri-cooperatives, food processors, traders and fertiliser blenders warn that the small tweaks to the CBAM tax calculation formula introduced by the secondary legislation adopted today will not prevent the risk of fertiliser shortages or the prohibitive production costs threatening EU crop production. In this context, we once again jointly call on the Commission and Member States to postpone the implementation of #CBAM for fertilisers until conditions are met.

The European Commission has finally presented its long-awaited Environment Omnibus. Unfortunately, it falls short. Despite its own Vision for Agriculture and Food, which recognises the urgent need for real, cross-cutting simplification beyond the CAP, the Commission has again chosen minimal ambition and cosmetic changes, at least for now.
Martedì 21 ottobre 2025, COPA-COGECA e i suoi membri si sono riuniti davanti al Parlamento Europeo a Strasburgo per sollecitare gli europarlamentari a non accettare l’inaccettabile, a seguito del rilascio da parte della Commissione europea durante l’estate di proposte di bilancio e di PAC che hanno attraversato tutte le linee rosse e rappresentano una minaccia esistenziale per i nostri settori.
Chi pagherà il prezzo dell'accordo fra UE e Mercosur? Per il BEUC e il Copa-Cogeca, la risposta è chiara: gli agricoltori e i consumatori europei. I Segretari generali di entrambe le organizzazioni ne spiegano le motivazioni in questo video.
In seguito al nostro appello a mobilitarsi contro l'accordo tra UE e Mercosur, Marcos Rochinski, a capo della Confederazione brasiliana dei lavoratori in aziende agricole a conduzione familiare, ci ha inviato un videomessaggio di sostegno spiegando perché l'accordo è problematico anche per loro.
Lunedì 9 dicembre, poche ore dopo l'annuncio di un accordo politico tra la Commissione europea e i rappresentanti del blocco del Mercosur, il Copa-Cogeca e i suoi membri hanno avviato una mobilitazione contro un accordo obsoleto ed iniquo, con effetti cumulativi inaccettabili per l'agricoltura europea.
