Il prossimo decennio sarà fondamentale per l'agricoltura dell'UE. Ci attendono molte sfide. Saremo confrontati a dibattiti difficili relativi al rinnovo generazionale, al basso reddito agricolo, alla volatilità del mercato e al cambiamento climatico. In quanto agricoltori e cooperative europei conosciamo e siamo pronti ad affrontare tali difficili questioni e le sfide che ci attendono. Cerchiamo di fornire il tipo di agricoltura che i nostri cittadini si aspettano e chiedono: un'agricoltura che garantisca un'elevata sicurezza dell'approvvigionamento alimentare e alti standard di qualità , benessere, sostenibilità e protezione ambientale. Questo è il nostro impegno nei confronti dell'Europa! In cambio, chiediamo ai leader europei di definire il quadro politico che nutrirà il nostro futuro.

Following today's approval by the European Parliament of the modernised EU–Mexico Agreement, Copa and Cogeca underline that the agreement has the potential to strengthen EU agri-food exports and regulatory cooperation. Delivering on that potential, however, will require effective implementation, robust enforcement and careful monitoring of its impact on sensitive agricultural sectors.
We welcome today's vote by the European Parliament adopting the Motion for a Resolution objecting to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/2680, which would have classified soybean oil as a high indirect land-use change (ILUC) risk feedstock under the Renewable Energy Directive. This vote sends a strong signal in favour of evidence-based policymaking and greater coherence between the EU's renewable energy, agriculture and food security objectives.

As it is already approaching the midpoint of its mandate, the European Commission just presented its long-awaited Livestock Strategy and Protein Plan, 2 flagship communications announced in the Vision for Agriculture and Food. The 2 Communications primarily mark an important shift in tone. After years in which livestock was too often portrayed as part of the problem, the Commission now recognises its contribution to food security, rural vitality, the circular economy, and the production of high-quality proteins and renewable energy. However, both remain heavily focused on assessments, monitoring and benchmarking, while even a careful reading of the annexes makes it difficult to identify concrete actions or measures that would deliver tangible relief for farmers on the ground.

Parliament's ENVi Committee adopted yesterday its report on the revision of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. While farmers and agri-cooperatives had hoped that 🇪🇺 Parliament would strengthen the proposal by ensuring greater resilience during periods of market disruption, the Committee instead chose to delete the only provision that would have allowed for the temporary suspension of the #CBAM on fertilisers in times of crisis (Article 27a).

Copa and Cogeca welcome today's final approval by the European Parliament of the Regulation on NGTs, at a time when 🇪🇺 agriculture faces increasing climate, environmental and market challenges, access to better-performing crop varieties is essential to ensure food security, sustainability and competitiveness.This vote is a major and historic milestone. The new framework is expected to become fully operational within the next 2 years. The focus must now be on delivering the rules and guidance that will allow effectively European farmers to access this innovation.

European Commission unveiled a complementary set of CAP adjustments aimed at providing Member States with greater flexibility to support farmers facing sharply rising fertiliser costs. COPA COGECA acknowledges that these announcements represent an initial positive step. However, these they should be seen for what they are: limited adjustments that leave the core issues untouched and fail to match the magnitude of the crisis that could hit 🇪🇺agriculture in the months ahead.

Finance Ministers have adopted their General Approach on the European Commission proposal to strengthen the hashtag CBAM.While the Iran crisis have pushed Member States to recognise the need for a safeguard mechanism for fertilisers through the inclusion of Article 27a, farmers and agri-cooperatives express deep disappointment that the agreed trigger threshold is set far too high to provide any meaningful protection in times of crisis.

the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026 presented its negotiating approach on how to reach a consensus among Member States on the next EU budget, based on the European Commission’s proposal and its Single Fund structure. COPA COGECA, like the European Parliament negotiators on this file, can only regret the approach being pursued. The proposed baseline for the agricultural envelope simply does not reflect the food security and transition challenges that will arise over the period.

In response to the sharp rise in fertiliser prices, the European Union announced today, following the presentation of its Fertiliser Action Plan, the mobilisation and increase of the agricultural crisis reserve from €200 million to a total of €500 million. Member States will also have the possibility to complement this amount with additional national support of up to 200% of the allocation received. This step is far from enough. CBAM alone will cost farmers €820M in 2026. Member States can add support, but farmers and cooperatives need immediate derogations, market transparency and 2027 supply security to avoid production decline and food inflation.

Concern was running high in Strasbourg, where farmers from across Europe had once again gathered for a symbolic action just hours before the presentation of the Commission’s fertiliser action plan. Announced as a response to the severe crisis faced by farmers over the soaring cost of this key input, the plan ultimately unveiled today contains no immediate measures that would give farmers hope of economic relief for the short term with the Middle East crisis, and lacks of firm and ambitious measures in the medium and longer term to provide relief from the multiplication of EU policies artificially increasing fertilisers prices. The Fertiliser Action Plan presented today must be implemented without any further delays and complemented by immediate, concrete solutions that match the scale of the crisis. The European agriculture sector is heading straight towards a fertiliser wall, while the European Union monitors and hesitates when it should be taking action, because otherwise tomorrow it will be all European consumers who will find themselves up against the wall.
Tutti parlano del meccanismo di adeguamento del carbonio alle frontiere. Ma di cosa si tratta esattamente? Come funziona e, soprattutto, quanto costerà davvero agli agricoltori europei? Qualcuno ha fatto davvero i conti? In Copa-Cogeca lo abbiamo fatto, e il risultato è preoccupante!
Per tre anni consecutivi, i produttori europei di cereali sono in perdita, con perdite fino a 500 € per ettaro. Questa situazione sta diventando strutturale e dovrebbe preoccupare ben oltre il settore agricolo. Principale fattore: i fertilizzanti e i loro prezzi.
Dal 18 dicembre a Bruxelles al 20 gennaio a Strasburgo, gli agricoltori europei hanno dimostrato la loro determinazione a difendere il futuro dell’agricoltura europea. Gli agricoltori sono da oltre 80 anni uno dei pilastri della costruzione europea. Se si rompe questo pilastro, il sistema non può reggere. Il nostro messaggio è chiaro: continueremo a difendere una PAC forte, accordi commerciali equi e certezza giuridica. La mobilitazione continua!
