The result of the vote in the European Parliament on the referral of the Mercosur Agreement to the ECJ clearly shows how divisive this agreement is. It also shows that the arguments put forward by the farming community, which just want fairness, have made sense to a lot of Members of Parliament, across national and political lines.

Copa și Cogeca sunt organizate astfel încât să răspundă provocărilor și întrebărilor puse de către decidenții europeni, permițând fermierilor și cooperativelor europene să își exprime punctele de vedere și propunerile pe cât mai multe subiecte care îi afectează în mod direct, indiferent de activitatea agricolă pe care o desfășoară. Următorii 10 ani sunt esențiali pentru agricultura comunitară. Ne așteaptă multe provocări. Ne vom confrunta cu dezbateri dificile privind reînnoirea generațiilor, veniturile mici în agricultură, volatilitatea pieței și schimbările climatice. În calitate de agricultori și cooperative europene, suntem conștienți și pregătiți să navigăm printre aceste chestiuni grele și să facem față viitoarelor schimbări. Căutăm să oferim genul de agricultură la care se așteaptă și pe care o cer concetățenii noștri: o agricultură care garantează un nivel înalt de securitate alimentară, cât și standarde ridicate de calitate, bunăstare, durabilitate și de protecție a mediului. Acesta este angajamentul nostru față de Europa! Așteptăm, în schimb, ca liderii europeni să definească un cadru de politici care să ne susțină viitorul.

COM INTA approved the provisional agreement for the GSP Regulation as was negotiated in trilogues in December 2025. Copa and Cogeca strongly regrets the approval of this agreement as it stands. We firmly believe that an automatic safeguard for rice is necessary to protect such a sensitive sector. Nevertheless, at their current levels the thresholds and surge quantities agreed would only allow the mechanism to activate once great damage has already been done.

Copa and Cogeca salute today’s decisive vote in the European COM ENVI, adopting the provisional agreement on NGT.European farming communities would like to thank the rapporteur, the shadows and the Members of the Committee for the broad adoption of this text. It is a new step towards a clear, science-based EU framework that enables farmers to access innovation and remain productive, sustainable and competitive.

After weeks of mobilisation across Europe, yesterday’s first AGRIFISH Council under the Cypriot Presidency had to handle an exceptionally heavy agenda, reflecting the urgency and scale of the challenges confronting the sector. Copa and Cogeca welcome the political engagement shown by Commissioner Hansen and Agri-Fish Ministers, stressing that swift, concrete decisions are necessary to restore stability, confidence and competitiveness of 🇪🇺agriculture on the ground.

Copa and Cogeca welcome the conclusion of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement as a significant and carefully balanced step forward for agri-food trade. The agreement strengthens access to a key growth market while clearly recognising the need to protect the most sensitive sectors of European agriculture and its production model.

Following the mobilisation of 10,000 farmers from all 27 EU Member States on 18 December 2025, EU Agriculture Ministers met today in an extraordinary session with Commissioners Hansen, Šefčovič, and Várhelyi, alongside Council Presidency Minister Panayiotou. The meeting aimed to address the urgent challenges, raised by the farming community, which have pushed the sector to a tipping point.

China has announced provisional duties of 21.9% to 42.7% on EU dairy products, effective on December 23, following an anti-subsidy probe that reeks of political retaliation. Since the EU launched its anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles in 2023, Beijing has systematically targeted EU key agricultural exports: brandy, pork, and now dairy. This decision is not just an attack on our dairy sector, it’s an attack on the livelihoods of thousands of European farmers who work tirelessly to produce high-quality, sustainable food and an attack on our Common Agriculture Policy, which is fully compliant with WTO rules!

Farmers face unprecedented challenges: rising climate pressures, emerging pests, and a shrinking toolbox to protect their crops. The lack of efficient and accessible solutions is causing yields in some sectors to stagnate or worse, decline. Without urgent action, Europe’s food security and farmers’ livelihoods are at risk.

Two days before the large-scale farmers protest on the streets of Brussels, Copa-Cogeca, supported by the undesigning agri-food organisations, urge EU lawmakers to reject the Mercosur Agreement. The signature and ratification of the EU–Mercosur Agreement would send an unequivocally wrong political signal. It would risk further destabilising an already fragile agricultural sector and erode trust in European policymaking.

Farmers, agri-cooperatives, food processors, traders and fertiliser blenders warn that the small tweaks to the CBAM tax calculation formula introduced by the secondary legislation adopted today will not prevent the risk of fertiliser shortages or the prohibitive production costs threatening EU crop production. In this context, we once again jointly call on the Commission and Member States to postpone the implementation of #CBAM for fertilisers until conditions are met.

The European Commission has finally presented its long-awaited Environment Omnibus. Unfortunately, it falls short. Despite its own Vision for Agriculture and Food, which recognises the urgent need for real, cross-cutting simplification beyond the CAP, the Commission has again chosen minimal ambition and cosmetic changes, at least for now.
From 18 December in Bruxelles to 20 January in Strasbourg, European farmers have shown their determination to save the future of EU farming.Farmers have been one of the backbone of European construction for more than 80 years. If you break the backbone, you can't stand anymore. Our message is clear: we will keep pushing for a strong common CAP, for fair trade deals and legal certainty. The mobilisation continues!

In the current political context of pressing market conditions, unmet demands and Mercosur flawed deal pushed through, we will support the demonstration organised by FNSEA in Strasbourg on January 20, at the seat of the European Parliament.It is now up to the MEPs to act, demonstrating the support they claim to give to the agricultural communities to ensure Europe’s food security.We will be many in Strasbourg, and we are counting on your support!
